Fuqua

School Profile

If diversity and teamwork are among the first things that come to your mind when considering a business school, Duke Fuqua could be the perfect fit for you. Few other schools can match Fuqua’s diversity and inclusion efforts, which span the gamut from thought leadership to a variety of events and activities. Fuqua students come from every sphere of business and society, and slowly but surely form a tightly knit group, often referred to as “Team Fuqua”. This blending occurs in Durham, North Carolina, which is part of the Research Triangle area, a hub of top universities and high-tech firms.

Fuqua’s class composition illustrates its commitment to diversity. Among the 447 students in the MBA class of 2023, 48% are women, 47% are international students, and 45% are US minorities, a mix seen in very few other programs. To cater to this variety of viewpoints, Fuqua has developed a flexible, choice-filled curriculum. Applicants have the option of applying to either a 10-month or a two-year MBA program, as well as earning two specializations (out of 14), two certifications or one major. Academically, the Duke MBA program is a well-rounded program, ranked among the top 10 in the US in four business areas.

As for employment, 32% of MBA 2021 graduates went into consulting, 27% into tech, and 17% into finance. 10% joined the healthcare sector, which was among the highest among all schools. Geographically, Fuqua graduates tend to be evenly distributed; 28% of the 2021 graduates live in the West of the US, 23% in the Northeast and 21% in the South, with the rest spread out evenly between the Midwest, South West and Mid-Atlantic. Notable Fuqua alumni include Ron Nicol (Managing Partner of BCG, MBA 1986), Melinda Gates (Co-Founder of Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, MBA 1987), Tim Cook (CEO of Apple, MBA 1988) and Christian Van Thillo (CEO of The Persgroup, MBA 1989).
