MBA Application Deadlines for 2022-2023

That is it. On August 1st, IESE announced its application deadlines for their 2023 intake, completing the application deadline list of all of the top MBA programs.  

Before we delve into the dates, a few observations. Like applicants, business schools prepare for admissions strategically. Having done everything they can to attract qualified applicants, their goal is to ensure those accepted will not ‘defect’ and attend another program instead. Thus, a few common practices concerning admission rounds and notifications have developed, which are worth keeping in mind: 

  1. Notification waves. First-round admissions decisions tend to be communicated to applicants in three distinct waves, which do not vary much from year to year. These waves mostly align with the professional inclinations of schools, which are typically either finance, general management or technology, as follows (schools in brackets have not yet published their deadlines, and are positioned according to their 2021 deadlines): the Finance Wave of Stern (1/12), Booth (1/12), and London Business School (1/12); the General Management Wave of Yale (6/12), Darden (7/12), Oxford (7/12), Harvard (8/12), Stanford (8/12), Tuck (8/12), Fuqua (8/12), Ross (9/12); and the Tech Wave of Cornell (12/12), IESE (12/12), Kellogg (14/12), MIT (14/12), UCLA (14/12), Wharton (15/12), and Haas (15/12).
  2. Early Action. Columbia, IESE, Fuqua, and Darden are distinguishable by their Early Action application rounds. In this round, applicants are required to sign a binding pledge, in which they promise to attend the program if accepted and withdraw their applications to other schools, which implicitly increases their admission chances.
  3. Multiple Rounds. Several programs intentionally offer +4 application rounds, so as to cater to the more constrained applicants who might not be able to make the regular deadlines. These programs include INSEAD, Stern, HEC, Cambridge, and Oxford. 

With that, here are the published MBA application deadlines in 2022-2023:

Notes: 

  1. At Wharton, notifications of interviews for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds are on October 25, February 17 and April 13, respectively.   
  2. For Columbia Business School, the deadlines refer to early decision, merit fellowship and regular decision. 
  3. INSEAD offers a 4th round on March 7, 2023, whose notification is on May 12. Notifications of interviews for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds are on October 7, December 16, February 10 and April 23, respectively. 
  4. At London Business School, notifications of interviews for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds are on October 13, February 9 and April 27, respectively.
  5. NYU Stern offers a 4th round on March 15, 2023, whose notification is on June 1.  
  6. HEC offers a final round on November 15, 2022. Deadlines are for the January 2023 intake and represent its 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th application rounds in 2022.  
  7. For IESE, Duke Fuqua, UVA Darden, the deadlines represent early action followed by 1st and 2nd rounds. Third rounds are on March 14, March 28 and April 5, 2023, with notifications on May 15,  2 and 3, respectively. IESE offers a 4th round as well, whose deadline and notification are May 2 and June 19, 2023, respectively.     
  8. Cambridge Judge has a 5th round whose deadline is on April 17, 2023. 
  9. Oxford Saïd offers a 4th round on March 22, 2023, whose notification is May 17. Notifications of interviews for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th rounds are on September 28, November 9, January 27 and April 12, respectively.
  10. The IMD deadline is for the January 2023 intake and represents its 4th application round. 
  11. SDA Bocconi and IE have rolling application processes with no deadlines.
