Michigan Ross has an esteemed, well-rounded MBA program. The school is located in Ann Arbor, a college town small enough to foster Ross’s tight-knit community, yet big enough to offer varied cultural experiences, such as rooting for the Michigan Wolverines at “The Big House”, the largest stadium in the Western hemisphere. For students seeking big-city offerings, downtown Detroit is only an hour away.
The Ross MBA is a highly regarded general management program; US News & World Report places it among the top five programs in the US in six business categories, and among the top 10 in four others. Moreover, it has been voted the best-administered MBA program in the country by The Princeton Review. In this program, students have the chance to consult real-world organizations (under Ross’s staple MAP course), launch new ventures, and invest real capital, among other things. The school has been innovating around tech in the past few years, adding offerings such as the Business+Tech Initiative, the student-led Michigan Climate Venture Fund, and the Pinkert Healthcare Accelerator. In terms of class composition, Ross is notable for gender diversity and openness to backgrounds outside business; 46% of the MBA class of 2023 are women, and 16% are from government, military, education, or nonprofit backgrounds, both of which are exceptionally high.
Unofficially, Ross is known as a “consulting school”; as many as 35% of the MBA class of 2021 went into the sector, somewhat confirming this notion. Tech placed second with 25%, finance third with 15%. After the program, graduates dispersed to the Midwest and the West of the US in equal proportions of 29%, followed by the Northeast with 21%. Notable Ross alumni include Stephen Sanger (Former Chairman and CEO of General Mills, MBA 1970), David Bohnett (Founder and CEO of GeoCities, MBA 1980), Haluk Dinçer (President of the Retail and Insurance Group of Sabancı Holding, MBA 1988) and Tige Savage (Co-Founder and Managing Partner of Revolution LLC, MBA 1988).
