Sloan

School Profile

MIT Sloan has a strong brand and even a stronger philosophy. Following the MIT motto mens et manus, Latin for mind and hand, Sloan is one of the most experiential programs in the world, where knowledge goes hand in hand with application. A clear demonstration of this philosophy can be found in the MBA class of 2023, where 45% of students have STEM bachelor’s degrees, the highest percentage among all top schools. Sloan has a relatively small MBA class of 450 students, fostering a sense of community where students work collaboratively and creatively.

The school’s MBA program is regarded as a world-leader in most analytical fields. US News & World Report ranks Sloan best program in the US in production/operations, project management, business analytics and information systems, and top five in supply chain/logistics, entrepreneurship and finance. Its MBA curriculum is considered flexible, offering tracks in finance, entrepreneurship & innovation, and enterprise management. Additionally, students can earn certificates in sustainability, healthcare, analytics, or digital product management. Another notable offering is MIT’s LGO program, which offers both an MBA and an MS in global operations.

As for employment, 28% of the Sloan MBA class of 2021 went on to work in consulting, 25% in technology, and 21% in finance. Another 10% entered the healthcare sector, one of the highest percentages among all business schools. 40% of graduates chose to stay in the Northeast of the United States, followed by 28% in the West. Notable Sloan alumni include Keiji Tachikawa (President of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency, MBA 1978), John Thompson (Chairman of Microsoft, MBA 1983), Bill Taylor (Co-Founder of Fast Company Magazine, MBA 1987), and Brian Halligan (Co-Founder and CEO of Hubspot, MBA 2005).
